A successful internal whitening of a discoloured rootfilled UL1.
A male patient attended the surgery asking for treatment of the discolouration that has developed over the last years on the previously rootfilled UL1. I explained that one of the options to enhance the appearance is to bleach the tooth internally. I removed the palatinal filling and cleaned the cavum properly and even removed some of the rootfilling material up to 1 mm over the gingival margin. Glass Ionomer was used to seal the canal and the cavity was filled with cotton ball saturated with Opalescence 10% Carbamide Peroxide gel and a temporary filling closed the cavity. The patient was scheduled to come back in a week’s time for evaluation. A week later the result was very satisfactory and the patient happy. It is now more than a year and half since I did the whitening and I have not seen the patient since. I am assuming that the tooth is still ok and the patient still happy.
