At this year's British Dental Association Annual Conference the GDC is focussing on dental care professional (DCP) registration and the next steps for the fully registered dental team.

A plenary session on "DCP registration – moving forward" will emphasise the need for dental nurses and dental technicians to register with the GDC before the deadline of 30 July 2008. This session, which is taking place at 13:00 on Thursday 1 May, will also explore standards, the scope of practice of the dental team and fitness to practise issues.

A seminar "Now you are a registered professional – compulsory CPD for DCPs" takes place at 09:30 on Friday 2 May. The session will outline the requirements of CPD for DCPs and explore ways that verifiable and general CPD, which will be compulsory from 1 August 2008, can be achieved.

For dental nurses and dental technicians who have not yet registered, a "Registration Surgery" will be available at the GDC exhibition stand (C41 & C42) throughout the three-day conference (1-3 May). We will be on hand to check application forms, as well as offer advice and answer questions on the registration process. If everything's in order we can take your completed form back to the office for processing. Completed forms and accompanying documents can be submitted by colleagues for those who can't make it themselves.

Dental nurses and technicians who would like to submit applications at the "Registration Surgery" need to bring certified copies of all the relevant supporting documents, including proof of identity, as original documents will not be accepted on the day.

More information about DCP registration, including application forms, is available from this website. You can also request an application form by contacting our Registration Team on 0845 222 4141 or by email at GDCregistration(at)gdc-uk.org
